I hit my 9-month mark last Wednesday! Most of you have
probably already seen my Facebook post, but in case some of you haven't,
I'm officially more than halfway through my mission, which is super
crazy! Time really does fly when you're having fun.
We
started teaching this woman named Rosa last week - she was a referral
from Pablo, our one active Hispanic member! Rosa is such a cute lil'
lady - she's probably around 4'8 and she LOVES hugs! She also can't read
and her phone is broken right now (so she can't listen to the Book of
Mormon like an audiobook on the app), so until her phone gets fixed,
we're having her watch the Book of Mormon videos (made by the church a
year or two ago) on her TV! We watched the first one with her on
Thursday and she really enjoyed it!
On
Friday, we went and visited Xochitl and her family to teach her
husband, Juan, the Restoration (because he wasn't there when we taught
it, and it's good review for the rest of the family anyways!). Xochitl
is SO amazing and knows SO much - she answered all of our questions,
helped the kids and Juan participate, and shared really cool experiences
she's had with personal revelation. She's SO ready to be baptized!!!
We're so excited for December 5th!
On
Sunday, all 6 of them came to church again, and loved it! Xochitl said
she starte crying during the Sacrament hymn because she just felt the
Spirit so strongly! Afterwards, we had our Spanish Sunday School, so
Xochitl and Juan came and we read D&C 133, which is all about the
Second Coming of Jesus Christ! They both have such strong faith and are
going to be AMAZING members!
After
church, we took the Elders to Rosa's house to give her a priesthood
blessing! She's been having a lot of health problems, and had never had a
blessing before, so we were excited for her! After the blessing, we
asked Rosa how she felt, and she said, "Oh, I feel so much joy. Thank
you, thank you!" She was wiping away tears and gave me and Hermana
Shumway big hugs.
Personal Study excerpt for the week:
TG: Jesus Christ, Redeemer
2
Nephi 2:6-7 - "Wherefore, redemption cometh in and through the Holy
Messiah; for He is full of grace and truth. Behold, He offereth Himself a
sacrifice for sin, to answer the ends of the law, unto all those who
have a broken heart and a contrite spirit"
--I love
how it says Christ is FULL of grace and truth - We're not gonna get to
the judgement seat and hear Jesus say, "Oh darn, I actually just gave
the last of my grace to the guy in front of you. Sorry!" He is FULL of grace and it never runs out!
I
invite you all to learn more about grace - there's some really good
General Conference talks about grace and also some really good BYU
speeches, including Brad Wilcox's "His Grace is Sufficient". Study those
talks and look for their invitations! I promise you'll find something
new to work on that you hadn't ever realized or noticed before!
Love you all and have an amazing week!
