Hermana Mary DeWitt: Bug Spray, Burritos, and Blessings!

Hello everyone!

This week was pretty good! On Wednesday, we went and helped a family move (they're in a different ward, but their son and his wife are in our branch) and it was really fun! Hermana Becker and I cleaned all of the blinds and seeing all of the dust and dirt come off of them was SO satisfying! Also, they were just so nice and gave us some extra bug spray they didn't need (which we really needed!) and they were super fun to talk to.

On Saturday, we finished pulling Connie's weeds! It was really good that we were there because she was feeling really sad and lonely and she was glad to have someone to talk to. After we finished the weeds, Connie asked if we could stay for dinner and we didn't have a dinner appointment to go to, so we stayed for dinner! She made burritos and they were SO good!

Hermana Becker and I gave talks on Sunday about missionary work! I talked about the blessings we receive from sharing the gospel, and Hermana Becker talked about the blessing other people receive from accepting the gospel. It was my 2nd talk in Spanish, so I was pretty nervous, but everyone said it was good, so that was a relief.

That night, we got to have a lesson with Zach (the guy we met last week while street contacting!) We had told him we would stop by on Saturday, but for some reason, we forgot and didn't stop by on Saturday! On Sunday, we remembered and decided to stop by (and we felt so terrible that we had forgotten to visit him!) but when we knocked on the door and he answered, he told us that he actually had been out of town on a trip until Sunday morning, so it was perfect that we had stopped by on Sunday instead of Saturday! We were so grateful! We read the Introduction of the Book of Mormon, talked a little bit about the Plan of Salvation, and invited him to read Alma 40-41, and he said he would! We were so excited and he seemed genuinely interested in the gospel - he even asked what time he could go to church! We had to contact the sisters in his area to find out the right building and time for the english ward in his area, but we are just so excited for him! Eventually, we'll do a pass-off lesson, but we'll wait until after transfers (which are next week!!) so that the transition is smoother.

"Whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions and shall be lifted up at the last day." --Alma 36:3

We all go through trials and troubles in life, because that's part of life. The only question is: will you also make God part of your life? A lot of the time, God doesn't take away our trials, because we need them in order to become stronger and learn to trust the Lord and His timing. But, when we DO trust Him, He will always support us and help us get through our trials. We're going to go through hard times in life either way; would you rather go through it alone, or with God?
